Shootout’ with BGB kills 2 ‘smugglers’ in Joypurhat

Two alleged smugglers were killed in a ‘shootout’ between members of
Border Guard Bangladesh and a group of smugglers at Kachugari border
point in Panchbibi upazila early Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Rana and Mahidul.

Lieutenant Colonel Sabbir, commanding officer of Joypurhat BGB
Battalion-3, said on secret information that some smugglers were
bringing in a huge consignment of Phensidyl syrup from India through
Kachugari, a team of BGB led by Habildar Rafique launched a drive in
the area around 10.00pm.

Sensing danger, the smugglers equipped with sharp weapons attacked the
BGB members.

Later, BGB team fired 12 rounds of bullet in retaliation, leaving Rana
and Mahidul injured.

They with critically injuries were admitted to Joypurhat Modern
Hospital where they died at about 1.00am.

Their other associates managed to get away.

Later, the BGB team seized 200 bottles of Phensidyl from the scene.
