Slain suspected JMB trainer Murad’s autopsy done

Dhaka – The autopsy of alleged militant Murad alias Jahangir, who was killed in a ‘gunfight’ by police during a rain in the city’s Rupnagar on Friday night, was completed at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Saturday.Meanwhile, according to another report the the real name of said Murad is Mohammad Zahidul Islam. He used to introduce himself as Murad alias Jahangir to conceal his identity, the report said.
Dr Sohel Mahmud, assistant professor of the Department of Forensic Medicine (DFM) said Murad was killed by one of the 9 bullets of which marks were found in his body.
Of them, three bullets were found in his head and six others in his chest, hand and leg, the doctor added.
The doctors collected blood, hair and flesh from the body during the autopsy for DNA test, Dr Sohel said.
Murad was killed and three policemen, including the officer-in-charge of Rupnagar Police Station, suffered wounds during the a raid on a ‘militant den’ in the city’s Rupnagar area on Friday night.
Tipped off that Murad, a trainer of Neo Jama’atul Mujahiddeen Bangladesh (JMB), was staying at the top-floor flat of a six-storey building in the area, a team of Rupnagar Police Station launched the drive there around 8:30 pm.
When the law enforcers tried to enter the flat, Murad, the lone resident of the flat, swooped on the policemen and chopped them with a sharp weapon and opened fire at them, prompting them to retaliate with fire, he said, adding that he was caught in the line of fire during the gunfire and died on the spot.
Three policemen — Rupnagar OC Syed Shaheed Alam, its inspector (Investigation) Shaheen Fakir and sub-inspector Mominur Rahman — were injured with stabs.
They were first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 9:45pm and later shifted to Square Hospitals Ltd, said SI Bachchu Miah, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police camp.
