Dhaka – An alleged smuggler was killed in a gunfight between members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and smugglers in Daulatpur frontier here in Benapole on early Tuesday.The deceased was identified as Ibrahim Hossain, 26, son of Yakub Hossain, a resident of Khoridanga village.Lt Col Tariqul Hakim, commanding officer of BGB-21 battalion, said being tipped off that a gang of smugglers was entering border area along with smuggling goods, a team of BGB conducted a drive there.Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the smugglers opened fire on BGB, prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight, leaving Ibrahim dead on the spot.On information, police recovered the body from the spot in the morning and sent it to Jessore Medical College Hospital, said Firoz Uddin, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Benapole Port Police Station.A shooter gun and two rounds of bullets were recovered from the spot.UNB news agency
