Snatching on rise around RU campus

RU CorrespondentA group of unidentified snatchers hurt a student of Rajshahi University by bullet hit at Binodpur Bazar area near the university on Thursday night.The injured identified as Mirajul Islam Miraj, a fourth year student of Islamic Studies department of the university.
He was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital in critical state after receiving bullet hit.
Quoting the eyewitnesses officer-in-charge of Motihar police station Asit Kumar Ghosh told that Miraj was returning back to his mess at Binodpur around 8:300pm from campus.
“When he reached at Mondoler moore of Binodpur Bazar, some unidentified youths made stopped his way and tried to snatch his mobile phone and money bag. As he protested them, they fired at his leg”, OC added.
Meanwhile, snatching has been rising on the campus and adjacent area recently.
Shafiqul Islam, a student of the university lost his mobile phone in the face of snatchers on last Tuesday at Old Folklore Chattar on the campus.
The correspondent along with his three fellows was faced by the unidentified snatchers at Zuberi bhaban premise of the university on last Monday.
After giving the identity as we are reporters then, they went away leaving us.
Some students alleged that most of the snatchers were directed by ruling party student’s wing’s leaders and activists.
For this, the university authority did not take any action against them.
Contacted, RU proctor Prof Tarikul Hasan denied the allegation and told that following a written complainant by a student we have deployed additional cops on campus to ensure security for the student we have asked police to take stern action who are involved in snatching.
