Sonali bank finds no buyer for Tk 35 billion Hall-Mark property

Sonali Bank has not found any buyer to sell off Hall-Mark Group property pawned to it for over Tk over 35 billion.
Earlier, on Feb 20, the bank set Sunday for the possible buyers to post their tenders at its Ruposhi Bangla branch.
“Nobody has submitted any tender,” Manager Mohammad Abul Hashem of the state-owned bank’s branch told journalists.
The auction was called as per the Artha Rin Adalat rules and regulations to recover part of the loan extended to Hall-Mark, he said.Asked whether any more auctions would be called, he said, “The higher authorities of the bank will be informed about this after consulting the lawyers.”
“We will decide as per the next course of steps suggested by the authorities.”
Bangladesh was shaken after the financial scandal involving Hall-Mark Group and its five associate companies came to light in 2012.
The bank aims at recovering its Tk 7.1 billion by auctioning 1,572 decimals of land at Savar’s Tetulongjhora, owned by Hall-Mark and its five associate bodies.
On Oct 2, 2012, the Anti-Corruption Commission filed 11 cases against 27 persons. After investigating the cases, the anti-graft body approved the charges against 25 persons on Sept 16.
It filed 26 cases against 35 persons of the Hall-Mark’s five associate bodies in Jan of last year on charges of scamming over Tk 35 billion.
