Stocks witness sluggish trent

Stocks maintained sluggish trading activities on the both bourses-Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE)-due to selling pressure on Sunday, first day of the week.

DSEX, the prime index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), lost 61.42 points or 0.99 percent to settle at 6,118. Two other indices of the premier bourse DS30 and DSES (Shariah) followed the same trend on the day.

DS30 index, comprising blue chips, lost 17.74 points or 0.78 percent to finish at 2,242 and DSES (Shariah) 7.22 points or 0.52 percent to close at 1,384.

The losers dominated the day’s trading as out of 335 issues traded, 48 closed higher, 253 closed lower and 34 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Bangladesh Thai Aluminium was the turnover leader in with 44.40 lakh shares worth Taka 1.39 crore changing hands.

Top five gainers were BD Autocars, Aziz Pipers, Anwar Galvanizing, Barger Paints and Sandhani Insurance. Alif Manufacturing, Alif Industries, FAS Finance, Legacy Footwear and One Bank were among the top losers.

In the port city, CSE also closed down with its CAPSI- losing 183 points to close at 18,916.

Out of 240 issues traded, 175 issues closed lower, 44 higher and 21 remained unchanged.
