Struggle for Independence was struggle for Democracy

Democracy has become a regular topic of discussion, debate, research and analysis everywhere of the country, because the mass movement of Bengali nation for the autonomy, independence was movement for democracy. Liberation war of Bangladesh was for the democracy. After gaining independence the country was barred by autocracy in several times but people of the country protested every time and struggled continuously.

Addressing the function as the chief guest Information Minister, Hasanul Haque Inu said this at a programme of Teachers’ Day organised by the Rajshahi University (RU) at the Kazi Nazrul Islam auditorium on Thursday to mark the Shaheed Shamsuzzuha, former proctor of the university who laid down his life for the cause of the country in mass-movement of 1969.
He also said that, division among the people believing in the war of liberation is threatening democracy. University Professor Dr. Muhammad Mizanuddin delivered addresses of welcome speech at the function.
Pro-VC Professor Dr. Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan, and Treasurer Professor Sayen Uddin Ahmed were present.
Earlier many program were observed including hoisting Black-Flag, placing wreath to the grave of Shaheed Shamsuzzuha. – RU Correspondent
