Dhaka – The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on yesterday stayed the interim bail granted by the High Court to MP Amanur Rahman Khan Rana of Tangail in the Freedom Fighter Faruk Ahmed murder case.A three-member appellate division bench, led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, pronounced the decision after hearing on a petition filed on behalf of the state. The court also ordered the completion of the trial within six months. Attorney General Mahbubey Alam represented the state during the hearing.
Freedom fighter and Awami League leader Faruk was shot dead in January 2013. Police submitted the charge sheet of the case against Rana, his three brothers and 10 others.
MP Rana turned to court in September last year and was sent to jail. He came to the High Court after the trial court rejected his bail plea. Later, a High Court bench granted interim bail in the case on April 13.
The state moved a petition seeking stay on the bail on April 18 with the Chamber Judge. The case was transferred to the appellate bench and the bail was later stayed until May 8. – Special Correspondent
