SUPRO for 6pc GDP allocation in education

Sushashoner Jonno Procharavizan (SUPRO), a civil society network, on Sunday demanded the government allocate 6 percent of GDP to the education sector to improve the quality of education.   It came up with the demand from a human chain organised in front of National Museum at Shahbagh in the city in the morning.   Speakers said a tendency to go to school will have to be developed among all children to ensure education for all.   They also demanded the recognition of education as a basic demand instead of a basic need in the constitution.   The speakers demand proper monitoring in the education sector after rooting out prevailing irregularities and corruption.   They said although the government set a target to ensure cent percent enrolment in school by 2012, only 94.83 percent children get them admitted to school till 2013. – UNB
