Suspected robber killed, another hurt, in Feni ‘gunfight’

Feni, Jul 12 – A suspected robber was killed and another sustained bullet injuries in a ‘gunfight’ with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Lemua area of the district early Wednesday.The deceased was identified as Foysal, 28, allegedly one of a five-member robber gang.
Rab-7 Feni camp commander Shafayat Jamil Fahim told UNB that on information, a team of Rab went to Lemua area on Dhaka-Chittagong highway on Tuesday late night. When they reached the spot, law enforcers found that a robber gang numbering five is robbing a microbus.
Sensing law enforcers’ presence, robbers opened fire on them prompting the Rab force members to fire back, triggering a gunfight that left two robbers wounded by bullets while three others managed to flee the scene.
Later, the injured were taken to Feni District Sadar Hospital where Foysal succumbed to his injuries. Another suspected robber, Nur Hossain Selim, 27, is undergoing treatment there.
Rab members, meanwhile, recovered two one-shooter guns, bullets and locally-made weapons from the spot.
The injured will be handed over to police after filing a case with Feni Model Police Station, the Rab commander added. – UNB
