Dhaka-A suspected robber was killed in what police said a gunfight with law enforcers in the city’s Uttarkhan area early Monday.The deceased was identified as Rajib, 35.
He was wanted in at least 13 cases filed with different police stations, including Kotwali, Lalbagh, Khilgaon and South Keraniganj, said officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station Hasan.
Acting on a tip-off, a special police team from the police station went to the Uttarkhan area on Sunday evening and arrested Rajib, the OC said.
According to information gleaned from him, the police team went to Moinartek area along with him around 12:15am on Monday to arrest his accomplices, he said.
However, Rajib’s associates opened fire on the law enforcers who responded with firing in self-defence.
Hasan said Rajib was found lying on the ground with bullet injuries after other gangsters fled the scene.
He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
One pistol and four bullets were recovered from the spot, the OC added.
