Terrorist attack on IUBAT University: 100 teachers, students hurt

A group of around 300 terrorists carried out an attack on the IUBAT University campus at around 2:40 PM on Monday, November 30, 2015 that led to injury of 100 plus teachers, students and staff members, academic life has been threatened and properties worth several crore of taka have been vandalized.
A press conference on this incidence was organized at the IUBAT University campus today. Teachers, students, representatives of the news media were present in the conference. The Press Conference was presided over by the Founder and Vice-Chancellor of IUBAT University.

Established in 1991, the IUBAT University has been operating its academic activities successfully at its own campus on 5.5 acres of land in Uttara. The university has around 10,000 students and more than 300 full time teachers from home and abroad.
A militant fundamentalist group is continuously attempting to create bar on the academic activities of the university. In continuation of such attempts, an attack on the university campus was carried out by the terrorists group of around 300 people armed with sticks who broken down the main gate of the university and carried out the vandalization. The security guards of the university tried to protest but were injured. The students and teachers who came forward to safeguard the security guards were also subjected to the attack initially leading to injury of around 100+ faculty, students and staff members. 12 cars and micro busses of the university, students and faculty were vandalized by the terrorists. Office of the Vice-Chancellor was also attacked leading to breakage of window-shields. The injured were hospitalized at the Crescent, Uttara Adhunik and other hospitals in Uttara. Properties worth several crore of Taka were vandalized by the terrorists. Some police were also injured.
From the CCTV video footage and still pictures it was found that the attackers were in panjama and panjabi and accompanied with children from orphanages. They began the attack with the slogan of “naray tokbir”. At the time of collective protest by the students of the university, the attackers split into several groups and carried out disguised attack. Latter the attackers went to messes and homes of the individual students, assaulted them and threatened them of life. Later with the intervention of the Rapid Action Battalion, the situation was brought under control but the terrorists are still going to messes and homes of the individual students, assaulting them physically and threatening them of life.
According to the university authority, a group of militant fundamentalists, in the name of the dress code of the university which is in place for last 25 years, trying to achieve their ulterior motives and 7 of them filed a writ petition against Bangladesh and others which has been summarily rejected by the honorable High Court. Defying the judgment of the honorable High Court of Bangladesh, the militant fundamentalist group carried out the attack with their muscle power.
The university authority informed that Police Commissioner, Deputy Police Commissioner Uttara, RAB, Special Branch, CID, Ministry of Home Affairs and others involved in maintaining disciplines and peace were regularly informed about the activities and attempts of the militant fundamentalist group through e-mail, mail and over telephone, and appropriate measures at their end could save the university community from injury as well as damage of properties. The university authority demanded full implementation of the judgment of the honorable High Court and requested to identify each of the attackers from video footages and photos and to ensure exemplary punishment of the attacker under the laws and justice of the country.
