‘Terrorist’ hurt with bullets in Khulna gunfight

Dhaka – An alleged terrorist was injured in a gunfight between police and his cohorts in the New Market area in the city early Friday.Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Mizanur Rahman said after arresting Abdur Rahman, 25, son of Mosharraf Hossain of Machhghat area in the city, a team of police along with Rahim went to the New Market area to recover firearms and bullets.When the police team was returning to police station after recovering four bullets, a machete and a sharp weapon from behind of Shilpa Bank in early hours, Rahim’s cohorts fired bullets at the law enforcers prompting them to fire back that triggered a gunfight.As Rahim tried to run away from the police custody after hitting them, the law enforcers opened fire at Rahim, leaving him injured with bullets to his two legs.Sub-inspector Tipu Sultan, assistant sub-inspector Joydeb Kumar and constable Mahbubur Rahman were also injured in the incident, claimed the OC.Bullet-hit Rahim was admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital, said senior assistant police commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Mohaiminur Rashid.UNB news agency
