Alleged ‘terrorist’ killed in Keraniganj ‘gunfight’

Dhaka – An alleged top terrorist was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Mirerbagh area of Dakhshin Keraniganj early Tuesday.The deceased was identified as Mukter Hossain Amir alias Lengra Amir, accused in nine cases including murder, abduction with Dakhshin Keraniganj Police Station, and several cases in different police stations of the capital.Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Dakhshin Keraniganj Police Station, said that on secret information that a gang of terrorists was planning to commit sabotage, a team of police conducted a drive in the area around 2:00 am. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the terrorist gang opened fire on police, prompting them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight. At one stage, Amir was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while his associates managed to flee the scene.

Earlier, he received bullet injuries in a gunfight with police in 2014.Amir was also the main accused in the sensational Parag abduction case in Dakhshin Kerajiganj. – UNB news agency
