‘Terrorist’ killed, ‘robber’ injured in Jessore, ‘gunfights’

Jessore, Jan 11 – An alleged terrorist was killed in a reported gunfight between two groups of terrorists at Jagahati in Sadar upazila early Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Rasel alias Rony, 25, son of Kumar Ali, a resident of Mathpara village in Chowgachha upazila.Officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station Sheikh Elias Hossain said tipped off that a gunfight ensued between two terrorist groups, a team of police conducted a drive in the area around 1:20am.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the members of both the groups fled the scene.
Later, police recovered the body of Rasel from the spot and sent it to Jessore Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
The law enforcers also recovered a one shooter gun and one round of bullet from the spot.
Rasel was wanted in eight cases including for robbery, said officer-in-charge of Chowgachha Police Station Mashiur Rahman.
In another incident in Comilla an alleged robber was injured in a ‘gunfight’ between his associates and police at Mostofapur on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Sadar upazila early Wednesday.
The injured was identified as Amir Hossain, son of Abul Kasem, a resident of Gajirhat area in Senbag upazila of Noakhali district.
Mahbubur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Moynamoti Highway Police Station, said tipped off that a gang was taking preparation for robbery in the area, a team of police conducted a drive there at about 2:30am.
Sensing danger, the robbers opened fire at the law enforcers, prompting a retaliation that triggering a gunfight.
Amir was caught in the line of fire and got himself injured while other members of his gang managed to escape.
Later, police arrested the injured from the spot and took him to Comilla Medical College Hospital. Police also recovered some locally-made arms from the spot.- UNB
