Textbook distribution begins

Primary and secondary school students have started receiving textbooks as part of the ‘Textbook Festival’ across the country.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid handed over text books to six thousand students at four Dhaka schools on Tuesday at the Residential Model College grounds here.
The students were seen to be happy receiving the text books.
The government says it has plans to distribute around 270 million books to 36,886,172 students of the pre-primary, primary and secondary levels in 2013. The Directorate of Primary Education has an extra five percent stock of text books in its possession.
Meanwhile, Primary and Mass Education and Mass Education Minister Afsarul Ameen handed over books to students of the Kalachandpur Government Primary School in Gulshan earlier in the morning.
Home minister Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir handed over books to students of Monipur High School.
So far, in the past four years, the ruling coalition government has distributed around 920 million textbooks among students.
