Textbooks to reach students on 1st day of New Year

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Wednesday said the textbooks will reach the students of primary and secondary levels on the first working day of the next year despite the ongoing acts of sabotage and violence by BNP-Jamaat. “Overcoming all the obstacles, we’ll reach the new books to the students on the first working day of 2014,” he told a discussion at the auditorium of National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) here marking the Victory Day.   Nahid said discipline has been restored in the country’s education sector over the last five years. “We’ve achieved a marked progress in the education sector…now we can distribute books among the students on January 1… examinations begin on the specific date while the results are published within 60 days.”   He said the BNP-Jamaat clique is enforcing different violent programmes and carrying out acts of sabotage to destroy the new generation.   Nahid, also the Primary and Mass Education Minister, said when the government is holding the war crimes trial after 43 years of the country’s independence, the Jamaat-Shibir and their allies are carrying out the acts of sabotage to save the war criminals.   “They (Jamaat-Shibir) remove rail tracks, and destroy bridges and roads, and making sniper attacks. They’re killing general people by setting arson on buses and trucks and throwing petrol bombs on vehicles,” he said.   The Education Minister said many people are leading a miserable life after suffering burn injuries in arson attacks.   Chaired by NCTB chairman Prof M Shafiqur Rahman, the meeting was attended, among others, by Education secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury and president of NCTB Officers’ Association Rezaul Islam. – UNB
