Dhaka – Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon announced that the Civil Aviation Authority, Bangladesh (CAAB) will offer Tk one lakh (one hundred thousand Taka) financial assistance to the family members of the Ansar member, who was killed in knife attack by a man, wearing dress of a a private company cleaner at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday evening.The minister made the announcement at a meeting held the conference room of the airport with the CAAB officials and representatives of difference law enforcement and intelligence agencies working in the airport present on Tuesday morning.
Memon also pledged to donate to the victim’s family members TK one lakh from his personal fund.
On Sunday, an Ansar member was killed and four people, including two members of Airport Armed Police (AAP) and two of Ansar Directorate, were injured in a knife attack at the Airport.
The meeting decided that the CAAB will bear the cost treatment of the four injured.
Later briefing reporters at the conference room, the Civil Aviation Minister said though Sunday’s incident created panic among us about security at the airport, but after reviewing security ‘we found that there was no loophole in the security arrangement, which have been prevailing from last several months’.
“Security arrangement is good compared to other airports of 10 developed countries. Bangladesh is more conscious on the question of security,” he said.
The Minister said that members of law enforcement agencies, especially Ansar and Airport Armed Police (AAP), who were on duty during the incident, have prevented the attacker from dining more harm risking their lives.
‘I can assure people both at home and abroad that our law enforcement agencies have the capability to prevent any incident like Sunday’s if anybody attempts like this in future’, Menon said.
Replying to a question, the minister said scrutinizing database of the airport, law enforcement agencies have confirmed that the attacker is not employee of the private cleaning company whose dresas he was wearing.
We are yet to be sure about the real identity of the attacker as he has been giving contradictory information, the Minister said.
Replying to another question, he also said that the law enforcement agencies have been trying to unearth if there was any militant connection with the attacker.
