Tofail for holding students’ union elections in all universities

Dhaka, Jan 25 (UNB) – Awami League (AL) Advisory Council member Tofail Ahmed on Friday gave emphasis on holding elections to the students union of all the universities and colleges of the country.

Tofail, a former vice-president of Dhaka University Central Student’s Union (DUCSU), came up with the remark while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion programme organized by the university unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) marking the 50th anniversary of mass upsurge of 1969 at Abdul Karim Sahittobisarad Auditorium of Bangla Academy.

The senior Awami League leader said the leadership of DUCSU should be open for everyone and the elected members will have to work for each and every student of the university.

Earlier, the university authorities announced to hold DUCSU election on March 11.

Tofail said, “Dhaka University is an industry of producing leaders. I felt very happy when came to know that the DUCSU polls are going to be held on March 11.”

“All the commands were given by the student leaders during the period of mass uprising and I was the convener for being the DUCSU VP,” he remembered.

Presided over by BCL DU unit president Sonjit Chandra Das, DU Pro-VC (Administrative) Prof Dr Mohammad Samad, BCL central unit’s President Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon and General Secretary Golam Rabbani, BCL DU unit general secretary Saddam Hussain, among others, spoke on the occasion.
