Torture of girls can be tacked by proper education

Internationally a sixteen-day campaign is being organised from 25 November to 10 December each year starting from 1991 at the initiative of the UN for elimination of all sorts of tortures against women. This year slogan is “Achieving peace and justice to build torture free family and society”.
GOs and NGOs of Bangladesh will take part in the campaign this year also. But what is our achievement in this regard. The torture of women and girls has increased manifold in our society and in some cases these are dangerous and unbearable.
Recently, rape in the moving buses and throwing the victims soon after from buses is being reported from near and far.
No one nor any organisation is raising voice against prostitution. Round the year, many innocent girls and women are trapped and forced into the hell which we call prostitution.
Girls are not safe in the campus of Jahangirnagar Unversity. A report was published in a daily that 20 girls were raped and 300 others were harassed few years ago. One of my relatives told me that a girl can not complete university degree from Jahangirnagar without harassment or rape.
Once acid throwing on girls and women had reached an epidemic proportion in our society and after enactment of a new law the incidence of the crime has fallen significantly.
Now eve teasing a great problem in our society and in the last several years some girls had to die as their efforts to protect themselves failed.
Girls are also tortured by women (mothers-in-law) and maid servants are also tortured by women.
I would like to request to authorities concerned to introduce a topic in the textbook so that students can learn lessons and be generous towards all men, particularly girls and women.
