Twitter thinks Trump’s Liberty Ball was a rough talent show

To say Donald and Melania Trump (in a glamorous white gown she collaborated on) were the main attraction at Trump’s inaugural balls might be an understatement.
At least, that was Twitter’s take. Social media users seemed overwhelmingly unimpressed by new president’s entertainment lineup, which was broadcast on live TV.

With A-list talent refusing to participate, and backlash mounting for those who signed on, headliners included the Rockettes, a kid band called Pelican 212, The Piano Guys, a musical group which turned Top 40 pop songs (including Fight Song by an angered Rachel Platten) into piano and cello-based tunes, Sam Moore and Michael Flatley, who introduced the cast of Lord of the Dance.
New York Post reported: President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump made a whirlwind tour of three inaugural balls on Friday, proclaiming “Well, we did it,” as they arrived at their first gala.
“We did it. We began this journey and they said … we didn’t have a chance but we knew we were going to win and we won,” Trump said with Melania, who was wearing an off-the-shoulder cream-colored gown, at his side.
“We really did something that’s so special and this evening is so special, and this whole day and yesterday, so incredible,” a tuxedo-wearing Trump said at the Liberty Ball.
He also took a pot shot at his political enemies.
“People that weren’t so nice to me were saying that we did a really good job today,” he said.
At their second gala, Trump got the Freedom Ball crowd at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center roaring when he asked if he should “keep the Twitter going.”
He said his Twitter account with its more than 20 million followers gives him “a way to bypassing dishonest media.”
Trump thanked his supporters, his Vice President Mike Pence and even gave a shout-out to God for helping with the weather.
The day started out dreary and it began sprinkling lightly during the swearing-in ceremony before clearing up later.
“It’s like God was looking down on us,” he said.
They danced to the Frank Sinatra hit, “My Way,” sang by Erin Boheme, who also entertained the gala crowd earlier.
During the dance, Trump mouthed some of the words and held Melania’s hand near his.
About halfway through, Pence and his wife and Trump’s extended family, including his daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner, joined them on stage.
The president and first lady capped the night at the Salute to Our Armed Services Ball, which was invitation only for wounded warriors, first responders, members of the military, cops and firefighters.
“I like you for a lot of reasons. I love you because you voted for me,” he told them.
He spoke to active-duty military members serving in Afghanistan on a video feed.
“I am with you all the way. You have somebody who’s going to be right alongside of you,” Trump said.
