Two get life-term for murder of Bikalpa Dhara man

A court of Dhaka on Thursday sentenced two convicts to prison for life for killing Bikalpa Dhara leader Masun in 2004.
Judge Shahed Noor Uddin of Dhaka’s Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 pronounced the verdict in presence of convit Babul. Another convict Shahadat is on the run. The court also fined the convicts Tk 50,000 each, in default to suffer one year more in the prison.Nine other accused of the case were acquitted of the charge as the prosecution failed to prove the case against them. They are Abdul Kadir, Shahjahan, Ali Ahmad, Swapon, Topon, Qaiyum, Motaleb, Zamal Matabbar and Jalil.
According to the case statement some miscreants killed Masum at a procession of the Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh leader Mahi B Chowdhury and injured Sheikh Abdullah Al Mamun. Later, Mamun filed a case with Sreenagar Police Station of Munshiganj.
Thirty people were made witnesses in the charge sheet and of them 23 testified to the court. The charge sheet was submitted to the court on August 10, 2004 while the court framed charge against the accused on October 22, 2008.
On behalf of the prosecution PP Md Abu Abdullah Bhuiyan conducted the case. Advocates Md Nazrul Islam, Shamima Akhter Shammi, Abdul Mannan and Md Emdadul Haque Lal moved the case on behalf of the defence. – Court Correspondent
