Two injured in cop-Jamaat clash in Jessore

Two people, including a policeman, were injured in a gunfight between police and Jamaat-Shibir men at Jhumjhumpur Moylakhana area in sadar upazila early Tuesday. The injured were identified as constable Bulbul, 28, and Mushahid, 30, an activist of Fatehpur union unit Jamaat-Shibir. Emdadul Haque, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said a police team went to the spot at about 3:30 am acting on a tip-off that a group of Jamaat-Shibir men were gathering in the area. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the Jamaat-Shibir men opened fire on them, prompting police to fire back that triggered a gunfight. Constable Bulbul and Jamaat-Shibir activist Mushahid were injured in the gunfight. Both were rushed to Jessore 250-bed General Hospital. Police arrested two Jamaat-Shibir men while the others managed to flee the spot. One shutter gun and one round of bullet were recovered from the spot. – UNB
