Two killed as BCL factions clash at Hajee Danesh Varsity

Two activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League were killed and 50 others injured in a factional clash at Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science & Technology University campus in Dinajpur at about 10pm on Thursday.

BCL activists Mahmud Hasan (26) and Zakaria (25) were killed, Abul Hasnat, officer in charge (investigation) of Dinajpur Kotwali Police Station confirmed journalists.

There were conflicting reports abut injuries that caused the deaths. One source said that the injuries were from sharp indigenous weapons. Another report said they received bullet injuries and were admitted to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctors declared them dead.

The clash was over the establishment of supremacy centring the fresher’s reception programme held on the campus.

The clash started at 7:00 pm and a huge number of bombs exploded. Additional policemen were deployed on the campus, police said.

BCL factions at different educational institutions clash frequently over control of tender bidding, control over dormitories, the educational institutions and their surrounding areas. News Desk
