Two killed, one injured in Sylhet attack

Two men were killed and a person was injured in an attack at Fenchuganj upazilla in Sylhet which was allegedly led by an upazila leader’s son on Saturday night at around 10.30pm. The incident took place at the Natural Gas Fertilizer Factory (NGFF) bazaar area at Fenchuganj upazilla under Sylhet. The deceased were brothers Shamim Ahmed, 20, and Shahin Ahmed, 18, sons of Chhanu Miah of Kochua Bohar village under Fenchuganj upazilla and the other injured was Tomal Dey, son of Babul Dey of Nizampur village under the same upazilla. The deceased Shahin passed the HSC examination results of which were published on Saturday, and elder brother Shamim was a labourer for the construction of the Shahjalal Fertilizer Factory.Locals said, in connection with previous enmity, Fenchuganj upazilla AL vice-secretary Abdur Rouf Master’s son Suhag allegedly attacked Shamim and Shahin with about 8 followers, and they stabbed them with knives fatally at around 10.30pm on Saturday night. Tomal was also injured then.With the help of local people, the injured were sent to Fenchuganj Health Complex immediately, but the on-duty doctors declared Shamim and Shahin dead.In connection with the incident, police held Suhag and another person, but within a few hours of the arrest, police allegedly released them.To protest these incidents, locals blocked the Sylhet-Moulvibazar Highway for an hour on Sunday between 10 am and 11 am. Later police rushed to the spot and made the agitators leave the demonstration. -Our Correspondent
