Speakers at a function here stressed the need for ensuring free flow of information by all
government and non government organisations concerned for expediting development
and ensuring good governance.
“Proactive disclosure of information regarding all development work at grassroots
levels could ensure proper utilization of resources and put a check on irregularity and
corruption,” they opined.
They made the comments while addressing a mass briefing meeting organised by district
administration under the management of Information Commission in the auditorium of
District Shilpakala Academy yesterday to create more public awareness about the best
use of Right to Information Act (RTI).
Terming the information as power, they viewed that wide range enforcement of the
RTI Act-2009 has become indispensable to establish transparency and accountability
everywhere in society.
Secretary to Information Commission Farhad Hossain addressed the function as the
chief guest and superintendent of police M. Shajid Hussain, chief executive officer of
Zila Parishad Kallol Kumar Chakrabartee, Civil Surgeon Dr. Ahad Ali and president of
Gaibandha Press Club Gobinda Lal Das were present as the special guests.
With deputy commissioner (DC) Dr. Quazi Anwarul Haque in the chair, the function
was also addressed, among others, by deputy director of local government section of DC
office Dr. Mollick Anwar Hossain, Sadar UNO Mamunur Rashid, female vice chairman
of Sundarganj Upazila Parishad Hafiza Begum Kakali, head teacher of Gaibandha
Govt. Girls’ High School Abul Kalam Azad and chairman of Sahapara Union Parishad
Mahbubur Rahman Tulu.
Farhad Hossain in his speech urged all concerned to provide need base information to any
persons following the rules of RTI Act-2009 as early as possible without any hassle for
ensuring transparency and accountability of the offices and empowerment of the people. –
