BNP spokesperson Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged his party leaders and activists to unite and end factionalism to prevent the government from staging ‘unilateral elections’.He was speaking at a discussion organised at Naya Paltan’s Victory hotel by Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal to mark its 35th founding anniversary on Friday.
“The government’s intention is to conduct unilateral elections excluding BNP. It will not be allowed,” said Alamgir.
Alamgir reminded the government of the last few days it has before the ends of its tenure on Oct 24. He wondered as to why the government was still wasting time to accept the demand for a caretaker government to oversee the national elections.
“We have to oust the government through movements.” He feared the country’s ‘democracy and independence’ would be at stake if a caretaker government was not there to hold the next elections in
a free and fair manner.
“All democratic parties should unite to take to the streets the demand for a nonpartisan government (caretaker government). Divisions among the parties must be removed.”
He also reiterated that the ruling Awami League would be prevented from coming to power by any means. -bdnews24.com
