Dhaka – The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday issued an arrest warrant for Dr Imran H Sarker in a defamation case filed for making derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sheikh Shamidul Islam of the court issued the warrant on Thursday. Earlier, on September 9, the same court granted bail to Ganojagaran Mancha spokesperson Imran and fixed October 26 for hearing on charge framing in the case. But he was present in the court yesterday and his lawyer sought time to the court. However, the court rejected his time plea. Meanwhile, the other accused in the case was present in the courtroom.
According to the plaintiff, a torch procession was brought out at Shahbagh on May 28 protesting the removal of the statue of Lady Justice from the Supreme Court premises. Imran and another Sanatan Ullash chanted defamatory slogans against the prime minister.
Chhatra League Education Secretary Golam Rabbani filed a case on May 31 under section 500 of penal code on charges of defaming the prime minister. – Special Correspondent
