Women empowerment through ICT

In the category of e-women and empowerment – the Adolescent Development Programme of the BRAC Education Programme along with British Council won this year’s Manthan Award which was awarded on December 5-6, 2013 in New Delhi, India. This year’s topic of contest was “Connecting People for Access and Empowerment.Girls of 45 Kishori Clubs in Manikgonj and Tangail districts are learning English through ICT under the English and ICT for Adolescents project.
It is found that a lot of projects are under implementation in the districts near Dhaka- Tangail, Manikgonj, Gazipur, Narayangonj and Narsingdi.
However only the well-communicated villages are considered for inclusion in projects. The far away districts should also be covered.
BRAC, the largest NGOs in the world, along with around 2200 NGOs have been working for the development of women in. Various projects implemented by these NGOs have targeted the development of women.
Yet violence against women and girls has increased dramatically in the society and the magnitude of the violence is considerable as is reported in the daily print and electronic media.
We have hardly found strong voices against the several existing prostitutions in the country where innocent girls and women are sold.
Why girls and women have to be in the prostitutions and lead an inhuman lives?
