Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Sunday called upon the people to work together against communal evil forces to build the country imbued with the spirit of war of liberation.
Addressing the Atish Dipankar and Bishudhananda Peace Award giving ceremony at Buddhist Monastery at Sabujbagh in Dhaka, she termed Bangladesh is an unique example of communal harmony.“The people had always rejected those tried to tarnish the communal harmony in the country,” she observed.
Bangladesh Buddha Krishti Prochar Sangha organised the function where six eminent persons both from home and abroad were handed over Dipankar and Bishudhananda gold medals for 2014.
The Speaker said the dream of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was to build Bangladesh as a non-communal country.
Meanwhile, UNDP has assured Bangladesh to continue its all-out cooperation for strengthening democracy in Bangladesh.
UNDP country representative in Bangladesh Ms. Pauline Tamesis made the assurance during a meeting with the Speaker.
The Speaker referred to different projects of the UNDP and said the projects have been playing a positive role in enhancing capacity building of lawmakers and strengthening the democracy.
