World Arabic Language Day observed on RU campus

Rajshahi, 18 Dec – The World Arabic Language Day was observed on Rajshahi University (RU) campus on Monday amid much enthusiasm.In observance of the day, teachers, students and officials of RU Arabic department brought out a colorful rally from in front of the university Shahidullah Arts Building at 10:00 am.
The rally paraded the main streets of the campus and ended at the premises of Shaeed Sukhronjon Somaddar Teachers-Student Cultural Center (TSCC).
Later, a seminar styled as ‘The Use of Four Skills in the Teaching of Arabic’ was held at Conference Room of TSCC at 10:30 pm.
RU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. M Abdus Sobhan addressed the function as the chief guest while dean of the Arts Faculty Professor Dr. F.M.A.H Taqui spoke as the special guest.
Chairman of the department Prof Dr. Md Abu Bakar Siddique presided over the function jointly moderated by Dr. Md. Zahidul Islam and Dr. Monirzzanan.
Convener of the program Prof Dr SM Abdus Salam, former Prof Dr Nokibullah and Prof Dr AKM Shamsul Alam, Prof. Dr Md. Abdus Salam Miah, Prof Dr Md Nizamuddin, among others, spoke at the program.
Addressing the function, speakers said once, the Arabic language was neglected and it has no special status in the international arena. But, in 28th session of the UN General Assembly on 18 December 1973, the Arabic Language was recognized as the official language of UN. Later in 2012, the UNESCO announced 18 December as the World Arabic Language Day.
They further said the Arabic department of the university has been gripped by manifold problems. The department has only two classrooms against over seven hundred students. Besides, there is no computer room in the department.
Speakers expressed hope that the university authorities would take necessary measures to solve all the problems of Arabic department to continue its journey with success and glory. – RU Correspondent
