Diabetic patients are on the rise in the country as its number here stood at 7.1 million in 2015 putting Bangladesh on the 10th position among the countries having the highest number of diabetic patients in the world.
In Bangladesh, the number of both type 1 and type-2 diabetic patients among the children is on the rise, according to experts.
The World Diabetes day was first introduced in 1991, and founded by both the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization. In reaction to the rise in the cases of diabetes worldwide, it was decided to choose a day of the year to raise awareness about diabetes and related causes. The day chosen was the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, a medical scientist, who co-discovered insulin, and was the first person to use it on humans.
