World disabled day observed in Netrakona

International Disabled Day was observed here on Tuesday with a call to establish a disabled-friendly society in the country.

Netrakona district administration and district Social Welfare Department jointly chalked out various programmes on the occasion.

As part of the programmes, a colorful rally was brought out in the district town. A large number of local people including NGO workers, students, teachers, social workers and government officials joined the rally which paraded the main roads of the town.

A discussion meeting was held at the conference room of Netrakona DC office here. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Netrakona Dr Abul Kalam Azad addressed the meeting as chief guest while deputy director of district Social Welfare Department Abdul Hye Bhuiyan was in the chair.

The meeting was addressed, among others, by civil surgeon Netrakona Dr Sahiduddin Ahmed, additional deputy commissioner (revenue) Netrakona Yousuf Ali and social worker Golam Mustafa.

The speakers underlined the need for whole-hearted cooperation of all including affluent section of people in the society side by side with the government efforts for the sustainable improvement of the people with disabilities.

They urged all to change their mindset and to be more sympathetic towards welfare of the disabled people.

Later, the DC Abul Kalam Azad distributed eleven wheel chairs among the disabled persons. –BSS, Netrakona
