Writ challenges election in Dhaka – 8 constituency

Dhaka, Jan – 1 – A writ petition was filed with the High Court on Tuesday seeking cancellation of the December 30 election result of the Dhaka-8 constituency. Jatiya Party candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency Advocate Eunus Ali Akond filed the writ petition seeking its directive upon the Election Commission (EC) to cancel the result of the constituency citing irregularities.
A High Court bench is likely to hear on the petition on Wednesday
In the petition, the petitioner prayed to the High Court to order the EC not to include the name of Rashed Khan Menon in the in the gazette notification.
Menon, a candidate from Awami League-led 14-party alliance, has been elected in the December 30 general election.
Later, Akond told reporters that the nation observed massive irregularities in December 30 election as the agents except Awami League candidates were not allowed in the polling centres during the
election.
The presence of voters was also very low, but it was said in the election result that huge turnout took place in the election, he said. – Staff Reporter
