Wrong lane use: Cases filed against ministers, officials

Dhaka – The Anti-Corruption Commission chairman Iqbal Mahmud yesterday filed 57 cases against the vehicles of ministers, top government officials of different ministries, army, police, leaders of the ruling party and journalists for violating traffic rules. The drive led by ACC chairman carried out for two hours from 4pm-6pm in front of the state guest house Sugandha, in the city.
However, 40 vehicles out of 57 were of government officials including social welfare state minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed.
When contacted, DMP assistant commissioner (traffic-Ramna) Mohammad Alauddin told the independent that ACC chairman himself carried out the drive and filed 57 cases including fines against vehicles of ministers, secretaries, brigadier of army, police, leaders of the ruling party and journalists for using the wrong side of Ramna park road.
Top police personnel including Joint Commissioner (traffic) Mosleuddin Ahmed were also present during the drive.
However, it has become a norm. Big sport utility vehicles with government stickers and some flaunting the national flag drive on the wrong side of the streets while “commoners” remain stuck in traffic in the right lane. – Staff Reporter
