Xi’s Visit: China’s advance team discusses various aspects with BD officials

Dhaka: A Chinese advance delegation, now in the city, discussed various aspects of forthcoming visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping, including security aspects, with the senior Foreign Ministry officials here on Tuesday.
Acting Foreign Secretary Rear Admiral (retd) Md Khurshed Alam and officials from the protocol wing at the Foreign Ministry were present at the meeting, the ministry sources said. UNB News Agency Reported.
Meanwhile, an inter-ministerial meeting is likely to be held at the Foreign Ministry on October 2 to finalise things before the visit.
The Chinese President is scheduled to arrive here in the morning on October 14 on a two-day State visit.
The advance Chinese delegation, led by director general of the Department of Protocol of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Qin Gang arrived here on Monday.
The delegation, including diplomats from the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka, has already been briefed about security measures at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Prime Minister’s Office, Bangabhaban, Bangabandhu Memorial Museum and the National Memorial in Savar.
During the visit, the Chinese President will have bilateral talks with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He will also meet President Abdul Hamid apart from other engagements.
The Chinese President may announce a package involving several billion dollars for the next couple of years for Bangladesh development projects, diplomatic sources said.
Bangladesh and China are also willing to sign a number of deals but these are yet to be finalised.
After the Dhaka visit, the Chinese President will leave for India to attend the BRICS Summit which will be held in Goa, India on October15-16.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will also attend the outreach meeting there at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
