Yaba trader killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’ with BGB

An alleged YabaYaba trader killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’ with BGB trader was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at Alikhali near the Naf River bank in Teknaf upazila early Thursday. The deceased was identified as Hosain Ahmmad,32, a resident of the same area.Lieutenant Colonel Abu Zar Al Zahid, commanding officer of Teknaf BGB-42 Battalion, said they had secret information that a gang of Yaba traders was smuggling a consignment of Yaba from Myanmar through the Naf River, a patrol team of the border force conducted a drive in the area at about 12:30 am. Sensing the presence of the border force, a group of Yaba peddlers, including Hosain, opened fire at them, promoting the BGB members to fire back that triggered a gunfight.Hosain was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot. Three BGB members were also injured during the gunfight.The border force recovered the body and sent it to hospital morgue for an autopsy. The border force also recovered 40,000 pieces of Yaba tablet, one shutter gun, two sharp weapons and three rounds of bullet from the spot. -UNB, Cox’s Bazar
