Yunus is not impartial: Tofail

Senior Awami League leader Tofail Ahmed on Tuesday said his party will not go to Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus for talks to resolve the ongoing political crisis as he is not an impartial person.
“An impartial person can broker a dialogue in resolving the (ongoing political) crisis. But, Dr Yunus isn’t an impartial person. The speeches of Yunus and BNP are inter-related. Awami League won’t go to him,” Tofail said.
The ruling party stalwart came up with the remark while addressing a function organised by the district unit of Islamic Foundation at Natun Bazar Chattar in the district town.   Tofail’s speech came just a day after Dr Yunus showed his interest to have talks with the government if it wants over resolving the ongoing political standoff.
On Monday, the Nobel Laureate told reporters, “I meet and talk to leaders of different political parties as they come to me. I myself didn’t go to anybody to share my opinion. So, if anyone from the government wants to hear me or want to know anything from me, I’ll gladly accept that.”
Turning to the next general election, Tofail Ahmed, also an Awami League advisory council member, said the election will be held under the supervision of the present government in due time as the per the constitution.   Rejecting the opposition demand for the restoration of the caretaker government system to oversee the election, he said, “There’s no scope of holding the election under a caretaker government.”
Accusing the man opposition of hatching conspiracies using religion as a weapon, Tofail urged all to remain alert in this regard. -UNB
