Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Zafrullah Chowdhury on Friday suggested BNP standing committee members to be more active to prepare their party for the next national election overcoming the current ‘adverse situation’.
“Sheikh Hasina (PM) works for 14 hours (a day). I would like to tell Mr Moudud you should go to all over the country leaving the unethical business in court. You all standing committee members should intensify your field visits,” he said.
Zafrullah, a pro-BNP professional, came up with the remarks while speaking at a discussion arranged by Democratic Movement at the Jatiya Press Club. BNP standing committee member Moudud Ahmed was present at the programme as the chief guest.
Referring to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s instruction to carry out peaceful programmes, he said BNP should take preparations for joining the next polls alongside conducting the movement.
Zafrullah thinks taking part in the election by BNP should be its one of the important steps to ensure a credible election and thus free Khaleda from jail.
He also said BNP strategists should devise new plans to make their party more vibrant and invigorate their inactive party leaders and activists.
Speaking at the programme, Moudud said the next general election will not be fair and credible unless Khaleda is released from jail to participate in it.
He warned the government that it will not be able to keep Khaleda in jail for a long time by resorting to various plots and tricks. “Khaleda Zia will surely return to people by walking out of jail. People won’t let you (govt) implement your blueprint to hold the polls keeping her in jail.”
The BNP leader also said it is the government’s political miscalculation to think of arranging the next polls without Khaleda.
He criticised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for what he said holding political rallies at different parts of the country spending public money.
Moudud said the government does not want to allow their party to hold any rally and carry out democratic practices as it knows its ‘defeat is inevitable’ if BNP joins the next polls.
He also alleged that the current government’s rule is worse than 1975’s one-party rule Baksal and other military governments.
