Dhaka, March 11 – The records of Zia Orphanage Trust graft case, in which BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was imprisoned for five years, reached the High Court Division of the Supreme Court from the lower court on Sunday afternoon.Peshkar M Mokarram Hossain with police protection took a box, containing the 5,373-page lower court record (LCR), to the High Court at about 1pm.
The Special Court-5 of Dhaka on February 8 convicted Khaleda Zia and sentenced her to five years' rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case with a fine.
On February 19, Khaleda's counsels got the certified copy of the verdict and filed an appeal with the High Court the following day challenging the lower court verdict that convicted her in the graft case.
The apex court, later on February 25, heared the bail petition and directed the trial court to send the case documents within 15 days. – Special Correspondent
