The Anti-Corruption Commission has given direction to arrest all the seven accused implicated in the case filed for corruption conspiracy in the Multipurpose Padma Bridge project.
“Since the case is a sensitive one; we took the matter with due importance. Thats why we asked the ACC investigation team to arrest the accused in the FIR,” ACC Commissioner Md Shahabuddin told reporters at his office on Wednesday.
He said steps have been taken to prevent obstructions that might be created to arrest the accused.
The ACC Commissioner said the investigation committee formed on Tuesday has asked for take proper steps to prevent the accused from leaving the country.
The commission has sent the copy of the FIR to the World Bank. The FIR copy was sent to local office of the World Bank on Tuesday and at its headquarters on Wednesday, he added.
After a year of enquiry and huge speculations, ACC’s deputy director Abdullah Al Zahid on Monday filed the case with Banani Police Station.
Former secretary of Bridge Division Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, who was made Officer on Special Duty (OSD) on Wednesday, was shown prime accused in the case.
The six other accused are: Quazi Mohammad Ferdous, executive engineer of bridge division, Riaz Ahmed Jaber, executive engineer of roads and highways, Mohammad Mostafa, the local agent of SNC-Lavalin and three foreigners—SNC-Lavalin’s former vice-president Ismail Hossain, Ramesh Saha and Keivin Wales.
Names of key suspect in PMB scam, former Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain and also former State Minister for Foreign Affairs Abul Hasan Chowdhury, were not included in the list of accused. The two former ministers were kept on suspect list, according to plaintiff of the case.
