No food scarcity in country: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also ruling Awami League president, on Thursday categorically said, at present, there is no scarcity of food in the country now.

“The incumbent government is agriculture-friendly. We are committed to ensure food security of the country,” she said.

The premier came up with the observation while addressing a programme organized marking the Golden Jubilee and Reunion of Alumni Association of Bangladesh Agriculture University (BAU).

She said, “We reached our goal as we set a target to obtain sufficiency in food production by 2013.”

The ruling Awami League chief also said, “We have to make this achievement sustainable, durable and permanent.”

Prior to this, she opened the festival by releasing a bunch of balloons and pigeon at university’s stadium around 11:45am.

She also inaugurated newly-built Bangabandhu Memorial Sculpture Chattar on the campus.

Earlier, the primer arrived at the university campus around 10:45am and university authority gave her a warm reception.

She also is likely to inaugurate a 500-bed newly-built complex of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital and new building of Mymensingh Regional Passport Office.

The premier is set to address a mass rally at Circuit House ground in the afternoon.

District Awami league president also Sadar constituency MP Principal Matiur Rahman will preside over the rally.

The district town was covered with security blanket to ensure security of the premier. Over 400 gates were set up on the PM’s way to Mymensingh to welcome her. Big size billboards were also set up in main roads of the district town.
