Blockaders torched 10 vehicles in different parts of the districts on Sunday night and early Monday during the opposition’s road, rail and waterways blockade. Police said Jamaat-Shibir activists set fire to a cattle-laden truck and a vegetable-laden truck at about 2:30 am on Monday at Shimanto Bazar near the west side of Bangabandhu Bridge. However, police doused the flame. Meanwhile, blockade supporters torched a North Bengal-bound fertilizer-laden truck and a Bogra-bound gram–laden truck from Chittagong at about 3 am on Hatikumrul-Bogra highway in Raiganj upazila early Monday. Besides, unidentified miscreants set a Bogra-bound covered van of SA Paribahan from Dhaka and a North Bengal-bound truck at Royhati afire on Hatikumrul-Bogra highway at the same time. Earlier, blockade supporters set fire to three goods-laden trucks at Saydabad intersection and a motorcycle at Chatiantali area in the town at about 9 pm on Sunday. Hatikumrul highway thana officer-in-charge Ali Farid Ahmed confirmed the incidents. Meanwhile, the joint forces in a drive arrested 11 activists of BNP and Jamaat-Shibir at Khokshabari in sadar upazila on Monday. – UNB
