100 RMG workers hurt in Savar

About 100 readymade garment workers were injured in clashes with law enforcers and stampedes in Savar and Ashulia, outskirts of the capital, on Thursday.Angered at delay over the rescue operation following the collapse of Rana Plaza, workers from different factories blocked different roads in Savar and Ashulia and vandalised about 40 vehicles in the morning.
They also vandalised 50 garment factories.
Witnesses said about 55 workers were injured in clashes with police as the law enforcers tried to bring the situation under control.
Meanwhile, all the garment factories in Savar, Ashulia and DEPZ were declared closed for the day by their authorities following the labour unrest.
In another incident, workers of Maksuda Garment at Ashulia scrambled out of their factory as the factory building developed a crack, leaving about 15 workers injured in the morning.
Yet in another incident, workers of JK Garment near local bus stand attempted to come out of their factory hurriedly as a fire broke at the factory when a generator exploded at about 9am.
The authorities doused the blaze within 10 minutes. UNB
