Police in separate drives arrested 55 people, including 11 leaders of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, from different upazilas of the district early Thursday.Assistant superintendent of police of the district Reshma Sharmin said separate teams of police conducted simultaneous drives in different places of the eight upazilas in the district from Wednesday night to early Thursday and arrested 55 people.The drives were conducted to thwart subversive activities centring today’s daylong hartal called by BNP-led 20-partry alliance protesting the gun attack on BNP chairperson’s adviser Reaz Rahman.The arrestees include three leaders from BNP and eight from Jamaat, said the police officer.
They will be produced before a court in the district today (Thursday) afternoon, she added. -UNB, Benapole (Jessore)
