Dhaka – Detectives submitted a chargesheet against 18 people in connection with the seizure of over 124 kgs gold, the biggest-ever gold haul at Shahjalal International Airport, in 2013.Golam Saklaien, assistant commissioner of DB police submitted the chargesheet before the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court on Monday.The chargesheeted accused are—junior security officer Quamrul Hasan, sweeping supervisor Abu Zafar, aircraft mechanic Masudur Rahman, mechanic assistant Anis Uddin Bhuiyan, mechanic Mojibor Rahman, junior inspection officer Shahjahan Siraj alias Babul, Raihan Ali, a Nepalese national Gouranga Roshan, C&F businessman Milon Shikder, Abdul Barek Tarafdar, businessman Saleh Ahmed Khan, engineering officer Salehuddin, Manik Mia, Subrata Kumar Das alias Liton, SM Nurul Islam, Saleh Ahmed, Sirajul Islam and Jashimuddin.UNBThey were shown as the members of a gold smuggling syndicate in the chargesheet.A total of 42 people have been made witnesses in the chargesheet.On July 24, 2013, Customs officials at the Shahjalal Airport seized 1,064 gold bars weighing around 124 kgs from the luggage chamber of a Biman flight.
