Fifteen eminent personalities, including late theatre personality SM Solaiman, journalist Golam Sarwar, educationalist Dr Anupam Sen and poet Belal Chowdhury, have been named for the “Ekushey Padak”.
The other recipients are Shamsul Huda and Dr Badrul Alam (posthumous) for language movement, Samarjit Roy Chowdhury, Ramkanai Das, Keramat Mowla in art, Golam Sarwar in journalism, Dr Enamul Haque for research, Zamil Chowdhury, Rashid Haider, Bipradas Barua and Abdus Shakur (posthumous) in language and literature and Prof Dr Majibur Rahman for social service.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will formally hand over the prestigious awards to the distinguished personalities at a ceremony at Osmani Memorial Auditorium on February 20. The Ekushey Padak, a national award, was introduced in memory of the martyrs of the 1952 Language movement. – Agencies
