18 fined for trading shrimp fry illegally in Pirojpur

A mobile court in Pirojpur sadar upazila on Saturday fined 18 people
Tk1,000 each on charge of trading shrimp fry illegally.
Officer-in-charge M Tajuddin Manik of the Detective Branch (DB) of
police said acting on a tip-off, a team of DB arrested 18 people along
with huge shrimp fry in big pots which were loaded in pick-up vans in
Baropool area in the district town at about 3:30am.
The DB team also seized six pick-up vans which were kept ready by the
arrestees to send the fry to different parts of the country.
Later, Sujit Debnath, executive magistrate, fined them Tk1,000 each
when they were produced before a mobile court led by him on Saturday
morning.
The mobile court released the seized fry in the Baleshwar River of the district.
Earlier, the government made it mandatory to collect shrimp fry only
from the authorised hatcheries, imposing a ban on collecting those
from natural sources but the arrested collected those from local
rivers.
