2 Bangladeshis freed after 8 months’ jail term in India

Two Bangladeshi nationals who were sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment for intruding into India were released from Dumdum jail in Calcutta on Wednesday.
Indian Border Security Force (BSF) handed over the two to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) after a flag meeting at no man’s land on Medinipur border in Jibannagar upazila in the morning.
The victims were identified as Aktarul Islam, 28, son of Ayub Ali of Babnipur village in Jessore district, and Abdul Razzak, son of Abdul Aziz of Komarpur village of the same district.
BGB sources said that Razzak and Aktarul had been detained by BSF troops eight months back after they entered the Indian territory illegally.
Later, an Indian court sentenced them to eight months’ imprisonment for intrusion.
The Indian government recently decided to send them back home upon completion of their jail term.
Deputy Commander Major Mehidi Hasan of BGB Battalion-6 said BSF has handed over the two Bangladeshis to them after a company commander-level flag meeting held between the two border forces in Medinipur. -UNB, Chuadanga
