2 denied bail for derogatory FB comments on Bangabandhu, PM

Dhaka, June 19 – A court of Dhaka yesterday rejected bail petitions filed by two persons who made derogatory comments on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Facebook Live in a prison van after being arrested in the anti-drug drive from the city’s Khilgaon area. Magistrate Subrata Ghosh Shuvo of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka passed the order after hearing on Tuesday. The accused are Mehedi Hassan alias Alamin, 23, and Shamim Chowdhury, 24.
General Registrar (GR) of Sabujbag Police Station confirmed the incident. Earlier on June 11, the court placed them on a two-day remand each.
It may be mentioned that several youths claimed innocent on a Facebook Live in a prison van after they were held in the anti-drug drive from the capital’s Khilgaon.
They all were freed after verifying the information. But, of them, two were arrested again by Cyber Crime Unit of Police over making threats and derogatory comment on PM and Bangabandhu on FB Live. Later, a case was filed against them under Information and Computer Technology (ICT) Act in this connection.
Two mobile phone sets were seized from their possessions when they were arrested.- – Special Correspondent
